Changing up the APAC leadership, Coinbase names a new regional policy lead.

Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange operator, recently disclosed changes in the Asia-Pacific team’s leadership.

The San Francisco-based business announced in a blog post that John O’Loghlen, who joined from Ant Group in July as country director for Australia, has added the position of regional managing director of APAC.

O’Loghlen “will be tasked with leading the region with a more focused approach in 2023, while building for our long-term success,” according to Nana Murugesan, vice president of business development and international at Coinbase.

Additionally, Coinbase announced that Katie Mitchell had been hired as the APAC head of policy to lead the organization’s interactions with regional authorities. Mitchell spent a decade at Visa in policy-related jobs centered in the Washington, D.C., and Asia-Pacific offices before working as the worldwide head of public policy and government interaction at Crypto.com.

O’Loghlen sits on the board of the trade organization Blockchain Australia, and Mitchell is a member of the advisory board for Emerging Payments Association Asia.

According to persons acquainted with the situation, Justin Choi, head of corporate development and ventures for APAC, and Marc Robinson, head of market operations for APAC, have both departed the organization. Both had been based in Singapore, where regulators recently granted Coinbase in-principle authority to provide regulated products and services involving digital payment tokens.

Robinson joined the company in April of this year after working as the global head of custody for the derivatives exchange Bitmex. According to his LinkedIn profile, Robinson worked in banking for more than ten years before transitioning to cryptocurrency, including a notable period as head of high frequency trading product at JPMorgan Chase. According to his LinkedIn profile, Choi joined Coinbase about a year ago from the private equity company CVC Capital Partners where he served as a managing director with a focus on technology.
